Monstrous Adventures of Beowulf - Graphic Novel Series

Thanks to Jim Bosomworth's Beowulf in 2-D site, I recently discovered Marc L. Thomas's graphic novel series, The Monstrous Adventures of Beowulf.

In three issues, Thomas adapts the first two-thirds of the story, covering Hrothgar's construction of Heorot, Grendel's first visits, and Beowulf's arrival and battles with Grendel and his mother. An epilogue at the close of the third issue offers a compressed account of the final third of the story: the aged Beowulf's fight with the dragon, death, and funeral.

The adaptation is generally close to the source but includes some additions that (mostly) add to the story. The artwork is cartoon-like; however, the series is labelled for Mature Readers due to "Graphic Violence, Gore, Nudity."

All three issues can be purchased directly from Thomas at https://www.monstrousadventures.com/.

The webshop also offers a sketchbook and (a brilliant marketing idea, in my opinion) a lapel pin of Grendel's severed arm.

The epic battle between Beowulf and Grendel comes to a thrilling close, mirrored by a tense showdown in 1980s Wisconsin. This action-packed conclusion explores bravery, friendship, and standing up to fear, showing readers that heroes can emerge in any world.
